North Denmark Region, Denmark

North Denmark Region is one of five regional administrative units in Denmark.

The primary task is healthcare, involving hospital services, psychiatry, health insurance, general practitioners and specialists. In addition to this, the region operates a number of social institutions. Furthermore, the North Denmark Region coordinates the regional development in areas such as business, environment, education, culture and tourism.

The North Denmark Region has a population of 578,839 and covers an area of 8,020 square km. The governing body is the regional council with 41 members directly elected for four-year periods. The head of the regional council is the regional council chairman, Ulla Astman (Social Democrats).
